Diesel emission factor, Australia
Diesel (transport): kilograms of CO2-e per litre burned in vehicles, from the National Greenhouse Accounts Factors 2025.
| Applies to | Scope | kg CO2-e per litre |
|---|---|---|
| Diesel (transport) | Scope 1: direct combustion | 2.72 |
| Diesel (transport) | Scope 3: upstream fuel supply | 0.67 |
Worked example
10,000 litres gives 27,200 kg scope 1 and 6,700 kg scope 3: 33.90 tonnes CO2-e in total.
Notes
This is the transport diesel factor (NGA Table 9, energy content times the combined scope 1 factor). The 2.71 figure some sources quote is stationary diesel, for generators and plant, and should not be used for a fleet. Heavy-duty diesel variants all round to the same 2.72 at two decimal places, so this one factor covers trucks and light vehicles.
